  • The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board

Investments in a wide range of upgrades, including high-efficiency lighting systems, cooling systems and more have realized significant energy savings of over 1,000 kW. To date, over 250,000 fluorescent lamps have been upgraded to new energy-efficient lamps in over 250 schools. These efforts have earned the School Board nearly $400,000 in incentives from Hydro Ottawa’s RETROFIT PROGRAM. Hydro Ottawa would like to recognize the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board for its success and commitment to environmental leadership.

  • Oxford Properties

Oxford Properties has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its buildings by investing in high efficiency upgrades and working with its tenants to achieve annual energy reduction targets. In its Constitution Square buildings, Oxford Properties upgraded its cooling system by installing six chillers, six cooling towers and twenty five pumps. Oxford Properties received over $295,000 in incentives from the saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM for its expected savings of over 1.5 million kWh per year. Hydro Ottawa is proud to recognize Oxford Properties as this month’s Companies for Conservation award recipient for demonstrating leadership within the industry by achieving aggressive electricity reduction targets.

  • LCBO

LCBO, as one of the largest alcohol beverage retailers in the world, drives environmental initiatives within its industry. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve efficiencies, LCBO recently completed a significant lighting retrofit in its Ottawa Service Retail Centre. By upgrading over 1,000 inefficient light fixtures in its 230,000 sq/ft facility, LCBO will be saving approximately 929,000 KWh every year representing a 30% reduction in electricity usage. LCBO saw many benefits from the project including a $62,463 incentive from the saveONenergy RETROFIT PROGRAM. Hydro Ottawa is proud to recognize LCBO as this month’s Companies for Conservation award recipient for its significant strides in greening its operations.

  • Giant Tiger

Giant Tiger has demonstrated a far-reaching and long-standing commitment to energy conservation initiatives. Thirty-six of Giant Tiger’s Ontario locations have invested in multiple retrofit projects and other green initiatives which have realized significant cost savings — savings that are passed on to its customers. In Ottawa and Casselman alone, the stores will save over 400,000 kWh of power annually from the upgrades made in 2010 — that’s the equivalent of powering 47 average homes for a year. Giant Tiger received over $25,000 in incentives from Hydro Ottawa’s Retrofit Program. Hydro Ottawa recognizes Giant Tiger for its commitment to environmental leadership as the newest member of the Companies for Conservation honour roll.

  • Toss Salon

Toss Salon Inc. sets an example for environmental leadership in the community through its commitment to energy efficiency. The local hair salon boasts renewable, organic products which are manufactured with 100% certified wind power and has recently taken its environmental mission one step further. Toss Salon invested $328 in upgrading its lighting and received $1,136 in incentives from the Small Business Lighting program. The retrofit will reduce its annual electricity consumption by 5,818 kWh — enough to power an average home for seven months. Hydro Ottawa recognizes Toss Salon for its conservation leadership as the newest member of the Companies for Conservation honour roll.

  • Rideau Centre

Rideau Centre has invested just under $3,000,000, over the past 20 years, in energy-saving upgrades including the introduction of a Metasys building automation system, a lighting retrofit, the installation of variable speed drives on its main HVAC units and a chiller and cooling tower replacement project. In the recent cooling system retrofit, Rideau Centre took advantage of incentives available through the Retrofit program, receiving $180,000 in incentives to offset the cost of the upgrades. The mall will realize 899,400 kWh in annual savings which corresponds to removing 100 homes off of the grid. Hydro Ottawa congratulates Rideau Centre for its ongoing efforts.

  • Ottawa Catholic School Board

The Ottawa Catholic School Board has reduced its electricity consumption by 27 percent through a variety of retrofits and by promoting a culture of conservation.

This extraordinary accomplishment has earned them recognition from Hydro Ottawa’s Companies for Conservation program. The Board received funding through the Retrofit Program to offset costs of the efficiency projects, which have contributed to energy cost savings of $9,816,676 over five years. Hydro Ottawa congratulates the students and staff of the Ottawa Catholic School Board for their ongoing efforts to reduce their impact on the environment.

  • Ottawa Hospital

The Ottawa Hospital has significantly reduced their energy and greenhouse gas emissions by upgrading chillers at the Civic Campus and the cooling system for the imaging machine at the Heart Institute.

These energy conservation efforts have also earned them recognition from Hydro Ottawa’s Companies for Conservation program. The Hospital took advantage of incentives available through the RETROFIT PROGRAM to offset electricity costs of the upgrades, which will realize an estimated $85,000 in annual cost savings. Hydro Ottawa congratulates The Ottawa Hospital for recent and ongoing efforts to reduce their impact on the environment and contributing to the health of all Ottawa residents.

  • University of Ottawa

University of Ottawa (Louis-Pasteur cooling Plant)

The University took advantage of incentives available through the RETROFIT PROGRAM to offset costs of its most recent project — upgrading its Louis-Pasteur cooling plant. The plant upgrade will result in a 25 percent reduction in electricity consumption and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 320 tonnes annually. Hydro Ottawa congratulates the University of Ottawa and recognizes it as a conservation leader in the community.
