Smart Meters

Smart Meters and Time-of-Use (TOU) rates are a province-wide initiative of the Ontario Government that will allow you to better manage your electricity costs.

With one of the largest deployments of Smart Meters, Ontario is set to become the first region in North America to introduce a full-scale Smart Metering system with Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing.

TOU coming to Ottawa in 2010
Smart Meters have been installed in almost every home and business served by Hydro Ottawa. While TOU rates are not yet in effect in Ottawa, customers will be transitioned to TOU rates beginning in 2010. All electricity customers in the province will transition to TOU rates by the end of 2011.

TOU rates mean that the price you pay for electricity will depend on the time of day you use it, as recorded by your Smart Meter.

Hydro Ottawa will keep you informed as you transition to TOU rates. In advance of your transition, you will receive an information package in the mail and notices on your Hydro Ottawa bill.
