Business - Electrical service requests

Electrical service requests

If you’re starting a construction, renovation or maintenance project at your business, we can help you adjust your electrical service.

With our online Service Request form, you can easily request:

  • A new electrical service
  • Addition of equipment to an existing service
  • A temporary disconnection - temporary power shut-off to safely complete electrical or non- electrical maintenance
  • A complete removal of service - e.g. demolishing a building
  • An electrical service upgrade
  • Additional assistance with other electrical services.

To notify us of a forestry concern such as trees close to our power lines (pole to pole) that need to be trimmed or other forestry issues that do not require an isolation of service (temporary power disconnection), please contact us.

Here's how to get started:

Talk to a licensed electrician

They’ll help determine if any electrical work is needed to keep your project safe and on track.

Submit a Service Request form

Submit the form three to four weeks before you start your project.

Get your customer layout

We’ll contact you within ten business days from the date the form was submitted to discuss your request. Once we’ve fully reviewed your request, we’ll email you a document called a customer layout. It outlines your project’s electrical work and the estimated costs involved. Each property is allowed one complimentary Customer Layout (estimate) per year

Schedule your service

After you’ve paid the fees outlined in your customer layout, call us at (613) 738-6418 to schedule your service.

A few things to keep in mind

Each property is entitled to one free customer layout per rolling 12-month period. This layout may include an initial site review, cost estimate, and an assessment of the service loading for the changes to the new or existing service. It does not include emergency services. Additional charges may apply in certain situations, such as if further work is required, the site is not ready when a crew is dispatched or revisions are made to the initial customer layout.

Let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. In some cases, we may need more time to order equipment or coordinate with other utilities.

Electrical service repairs

If a storm or unforeseen circumstances have damaged your business’s electrical system, it will need to be fixed before we can restore your service. Even if you never lost power, your electrical system may still have hidden damage.

Who's responsible for what?

If your electrical service comes from overhead wires, here’s how the responsibilities are usually shared:

Click here to see who owns what with our interactive image.

You’re responsible for:

  • The service mast
  • Wires inside the mast or pipe into the meter base
  • The meter base
  • Wires running from the meter base to your electrical panel

We’re responsible for:

  • Wires running from the utility pole to your business
  • If the equipment you own is damaged, you’ll need to arrange repairs before we can reconnect power. Always hire a licensed electrical contractor to assess the situation and make the repairs. Do not attempt to repair the equipment yourself.
How to repair your system
  1. Give us a call
Reach out to us at (613) 738-6418 so we can verify which equipment is yours and ours. We’ll also check for hazards, including trees located near overhead wires.
  1. Pass an ESA inspection
An ESA inspector will make sure everything is safe and ready for reconnection.
  1. Hire a licensed electrical contractor
    They will:
  • Apply for a permit with the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)
  • Complete the repairs
  • Notify ESA once the work is done
  1. Reconnect your power
Once the ESA confirms the work is safe, we’ll schedule the reconnection. You or a representative must be onsite at the time of the reconnection to allow us to access the main breaker. Ensure the main breaker is off when we restore your power.

Temporary repairs: In some cases, we can reconnect your power after a licensed contractor completes temporary repairs authorized by the ESA. However, the repairs must be made permanent within 30 days.

Insurance: Ask your insurance provider about your coverage and keep all receipts related to your claim. Ask your contractor for a copy of the ESA Certificate of Inspection for your records.
