High-voltage vaults

What you need to know

If your business owns or operates high-voltage electrical equipment in a vault, it’s important to keep both the equipment and the vault properly maintained. This reduces safety risks, prevents power outages and extends the life of your equipment. We’re here to support you.

What is a high-voltage vault?

A high-voltage vault is a secure space that houses the electrical equipment needed to deliver power to your property.
We maintain the equipment we own inside the vault. It’s your responsibility to manage the upkeep of the vault and any equipment within it that you own. Make sure you keep the vault safe, accessible and in good working condition.

How to maintain your vault and equipment

For maintenance, we recommend having a licensed contractor test, clean and service your equipment every three to six years, depending on the equipment. To ensure these tasks can be done safely, you’ll need to shut down electrical service to your vault while maintenance is being carried out.

What your licensed contractor can do:

We provide one free vault access appointment every 12 months. The visit can last up to two hours and allows your licensed contractor to:

  • Inspect the fire detection system
  • Check and service the ventilation system
  • Perform an infrared scan of high-voltage equipment to detect possible issues

Additional visits may be subject to a fee.

How to request access or a shutdown:

Fill and submit the Vault Request Form to request vault access or a shutdown. Vault shutdowns must be booked at least 10 business days in advance. This helps us coordinate with all parties involved. To learn more about this process, call your high-voltage contractor.
If you have questions, you can include them in the Vault Request Form. A vault technician will follow up with you directly.
