Switch off for Earth Hour

March 22, 2018

Hydro Ottawa will once again stand in solidarity with millions of people worldwide for Earth Hour.

Taking place on Saturday, March 24th between 8:30 and 9:30 pm, Earth Hour is now the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. Hydro Ottawa will be turning off all non-essential lighting at its four main buildings for the global event, and is encouraging customers to do the same.

Quick Facts

  • Earth Hour is a grassroots movement in which communities turn off their lights for one hour to symbolize their leadership and commitment to finding solutions for environmental issues
  • As accelerating climate change and staggering biodiversity loss threaten the planet, Earth Hour 2018 endeavours to spark never-before-had conversations on the loss of nature and the urgent need to protect it.
  • Earth Hour is just one of the many initiatives that Hydro Ottawa supports in order to increase awareness of the environmental and financial benefits of electricity conservation. Our goal, year round, is to ensure that our City’s energy future is a sustainable one

Quotes

“Switching off the lights for Earth Hour is just one way Hydro Ottawa advocates for responsible energy use in our community. We’re here 365 days a year to help our customers conserve electricity and make Ottawa a more sustainable community.”
- Bryce Conrad, President and Chief Executive Officer
