Reporting an outage
Every report helps us find the issue faster, so if your power goes out, let us know. The fastest way to report an outage is through MyAccount or the Hydro Ottawa app. You can also text the word “OUT” to PWROUT (797688) or call us any time at (613) 738-0188. You don’t have to be a Hydro Ottawa customer to report an outage online, but you do need access to MyAccount.
Real-time outage map
Our outage map updates every 15 minutes to give you the latest details on power outages in the city. You’ll see where outages are happening, how many customers are affected, what caused the outage (if we know) and when we expect the power to be restored. We also show you whether our crews are on-site or on the way. You can zoom in on your neighbourhood, switch between map views and save your location.
The map doesn’t show momentary outages. These are short interruptions that may happen when our system detects a problem and works to isolate it. For example, if a tree branch touches a power line or a squirrel causes a fault, our smart grid will reroute electricity or trip a breaker to protect the system. You might notice your lights flicker or your electronics restart, but the power usually comes back on quickly.

Areas highlighted in grey, represented with a 'wrench' icon, are known planned outages that identify where crews have been scheduled to perform maintenance work to our infrastructure.
Understanding outage status
When you check the outage map, you’ll see updates that tell you what our crews are doing:
Under investigation or pending assignment means we’re still figuring out what caused the problem and what equipment we need.
Crew assigned means our team is already on the way.
Work in progress means the crew is on-site and making repairs.
Planned and unplanned outages
On the map, you might notice some areas shaded in grey with a wrench icon. These are outages we planned in advance to maintain or upgrade our equipment.
Unplanned outages show up as active events in colour on the map.
