Our social media policy
In this Social Media Policy, “Hydro Ottawa”, “we”, “us”, or “our” means Hydro Ottawa Group and its wholly-owned subsidiaries.
Connecting with you online
At Hydro Ottawa, we use social media to connect with you, share important updates and listen to your feedback. We want to foster open, respectful and helpful conversations in our online communities, including on platforms like Bluesky, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube. This policy explains how we use those platforms. It also outlines what you can expect when you engage with us online and what we expect from you.
Why we use social media
We embrace social media to be transparent and accessible. We use it to:
Inform and educate you about our business operations, services and the energy industry.
Engage in conversations with our customers, stakeholders and the communities where we live and work
When you access, use or engage with any of our social media accounts, you accept the terms in this policy. Other terms from the social media platforms themselves may also apply.
Our social media guidelines
These guidelines dictate how we use social media.
We expect comments and conversations to follow general rules of respectful discourse. We may remove any content without notice if it includes:
- Illegal, threatening, abusive or defamatory language
- Inappropriate, derogatory or offensive messages, including off-colour humour, sexual innuendos and personal attacks on other community members
- Discriminatory remarks or information that negatively portrays any community group (e.g., ethnic groups, nationalities, genders or occupations)
- Unsolicited content or content not relevant to Hydro Ottawa
- Content that violates these terms of engagement
- Inaccurate, deceptive or misleading comments
- We may not respond to posts that violate these terms. We may also remove or block your access to our social media accounts without notice.
We monitor our social media accounts during our regular business hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Time. We do not monitor accounts on statutory holidays or during major events like floods and power outages.
We do our best to respond to comments and questions we consider relevant and appropriate.
Anyone can view our social media accounts.
Avoid posting your personal or confidential information — or anyone else’s — on social media platforms. This includes details like your account billing information.
If you need to discuss confidential or personal matters with us, contact us directly.
We write and deliver social media posts in both English and French when possible. However, links we share may not always be available in both languages. If a post highlights a link to content elsewhere online, we will send the message in the language of that linked content. Similarly, a message shared from another account will only appear in the original author’s language.
