Hydro Ottawa powers fun for largest crowd yet for Special Needs Day at the Capital Fair

August 16, 2017

Today, Hydro Ottawa hosts its largest crowd ever for Special Needs Day at the Capital Fair. Approximately 1,500 children and adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities, along with their families and caregivers, will experience the sights, sounds and attractions of a day at the fair – a day before it opens to the public.

Since 2001, thousands of guests have enjoyed the opportunity to create lasting memories at this accessible community event; making Special Needs Day one of the highlights of the year for fair-goers and Hydro Ottawa employee volunteers alike. It is thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of Hydro Ottawa's volunteers that ensures the event remains a success 17-years running.

Quick Facts

  • This special day features live entertainment, karaoke, a petting zoo, a barbecue lunch, and midway rides.
  • Hydro Ottawa recognizes the important role volunteers play in creating a strong, supportive community.
  • More than 40 Hydro Ottawa employees are volunteering their time to ensure the safety and well-being of the guests during the event. Volunteers help direct traffic, assist guests on and off the rides, as well as prepare and serve lunch.

Quote

"Special Needs Day holds a special place in our hearts at Hydro Ottawa. Every year we open the Capital Fair a day early so our guests can experience the excitement of the fair, but with smaller crowds and line-ups, gentler midway rides, and help from our volunteers to assist guests on and off the rides. I'm thrilled to see so many smiling faces today, because it means we've done our job."
- Bryce Conrad, President and Chief Executive Officer
