Hydro Ottawa has received numerous reports over the last week from customers receiving suspicious text messages claiming to be the utility. These texts are not from Hydro Ottawa, and are fraudulent.
These suspicious texts claiming to be Hydro Ottawa, advise customers they are due a refund and provide a link through which to claim the refund. Hydro Ottawa does not text customers about billing and customers should not click any links they receive.
Hydro Ottawa encourages customers to exercise caution. Should they receive a suspicious text or call, they should ask for the caller’s identification and call us at 613-738-6400 to verify the legitimacy.
If customers have been victims of this scam, they are advised to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501, and the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222 ext. 5433.
